The annual Tony Barnes Memorial Sefton Park 5 Mile Race is organised by Mossley Hill AC and run in memory of Tony Barnes who played a big part in the running of the club for many years. The race is usually held in early July and is run over two loops on paths within the beautiful Sefton Park. It is well marshalled by enthusiastic members of the club and entirely traffic free. There are prizes for the top category winners and a memento for all finishers, not to mention facilities like a bag drop and toilets. The medal ceremony is held nearby at Mossley Hill Athletics club - 1 Mossley Hill Road , L18 4PT with the famous chicken / veg curry on offer.
The registration centre will be at the finish area in Sefton Park which is a couple of hundred metres past the start which can be found at the junction of Mossley Hill Drive and Aigburth Drive, and will be well sign posted on the night.
Course
The race is run over two loops on the paths within Sefton Park. The route is traffic free and fully marshalled. A course map will be displayed at registration on race night. As a UKA licensed event headphones should not be worn for the duration of the event.
The start is located near the Sefton Park lake car park, off Mossley Hill Drive and will be well signed posted.
The finish is a few hundred meters past the start location. Runners will pass the finish area shortly after the start of the race and again following their first loop of the park. After completing the final loop runners will be directed into the finish were a funnel system will be used to record times and hand out medals.
